Crown Sydney: First Look at the Sydney Skyline’s New Icon

Crown Sydney

First inhabited by the Aboriginal locals some 50,000 years ago, Sydney was one of the most significant cities in the Western world by the 19th century. Currently home to over 5 million Sydneysiders, it remains Australia’s most populous city and commercial center.

Sydney had a relatively short urban development history following the settlement of Europeans about two centuries ago. However, this made famous for its eclectic and experimental architecture. From its expressionist Opera House to Victorian landmarks, Sydney is a city that embraced architectural innovation. Hence, it’s no surprise that the city is about to welcome yet another exuberant landmark: Crown Sydney, situated in One Barangaroo Avenue.

Crown Sydney: Tallest and Most Luxurious

Designed by the architecture firm WilkonsonEyre, Crown Sydney is a building of superlatives: Upon its completion in early 2021, the 71-floor hotel will be the tallest in Sydney at 275 meters.

This opulent project – which cost AUD 2.4 billion – will be the first six-star hotel in the city. The complex boasts 350 ultra-luxe rooms and 82 serviced apartments, a private gym, outdoor tennis court, premium private gaming areas, spiral staircase, and a lavish lobby.

Peter Crinis, Crown Sydney Chief Operating Officer, described the building as “international in feel, but celebrating the beauty of Sydney and its surrounds in its execution.”

Pushing Limits of Architectural Innovation

It’s not just lavishness Crown Sydney is setting new heights, but also cutting-edge design and architectural innovation.

Rising gracefully above the shoreline, Crown Sydney took its architectural inspiration from three petals that spiral into a sculptural and curvilinear form. Contrasting the orthogonal geometry of the other tall buildings in the central business district, this hotel is an instant landmark.

The interiors echo the same thoughtfulness: It’s equipped with automatic doors for maximum convenience and installed door hardware supports the elegance of the architecture. Further. the building is committed to sustainability through renewable energy via photovoltaics and rainwater reuse.

Thanks to the Manhattan-inspired furnishings and Balinese-style landscaping, stunning design, and unforgettable views, Crown Sydney is poised to bring the best of all worlds open its planned opening in 2021.
